Religious Diversity in Present-Day Russia: the Omsk Model

Read this article in English Also available in French Also available in Russian Abstract This article explores the management of religious diversity in the region of Omsk. Whereas religious diversity does not result in serious social conflicts in that region, its political management operates, as in the rest of the Russian Federation, by drawing a symbolic distinction between "traditional religions" and "non-traditional religions", thus giving rise to complex politics of recognition. It is shown, furthermore, that the management of religious diversity is shaped by a context of conflicting interests of different regional authorities.
