The Universal Declaration of Human Rights: A History of its Creation and Implementation 1948-1998 The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 10 December 1948. In the aftermath of the Second World War, the authors of this Declaration wanted to transmit the following message: human rights must be universally respected in order to aid in the construction of peace. This monograph, which is aimed at a wide public, will, we hope, be of interest to all those who are concerned about respect, promotion and protection of human rights.
