Forums of Ministers of Social Development
In the framework of its Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme, UNESCO is serving as a facilitator for regular gatherings of Ministers of Social Development.

In order to strengthen the link between social sciences research and policy-making, and in an effort to address poverty and social policy issues in Latin America, UNESCO launched a meeting of Ministers of Social Development in the region in 2001. In partnership with the participating States, UNESCO undertook to formalize and institutionalize this Forum. It now meets regularly.

Given the positive feedback to the meetings in Latin America, MOST responded to the requests presented by countries in other regions to host similar Fora.

In November 2004, the Government of the Republic of South Africa hosted the first meeting of the Forum of Ministers of Social Development for the countries belonging to the Southern African Development Community (SADC). On 26 and 27 January 2006, the Government of Mali hosted the first Forum of Ministers for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) countries. On 26 and 27 May 2006, the Government of Pakistan hosted the first Forum of Ministers for the South Asian countries.

The latter two Fora resulted in the establishment of a Permanent Forum and the creation of a secretariat for the respective regions.

The Government of Morocco hosted the first Forum of Ministers of Social Development for the Arab region and Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan, from 30 April to 1 May 2007 in Marrakesh.

The 1st Forum of Ministers of Social Development for the Caribbean was organized by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture of the Government of Jamaica, in cooperation with the UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme and the UNESCO Office in Kingston, from 24 to 26 January 2010.

2nd Forum of Ministers for Social Development of East Africa 2009-09-28 9:00 am UNESCO
The 2nd Forum of Ministers for Social Development of East Africa will be held in Bujumbura (Burundi) from 5 to 8 October 2009. The Forum will be organized by the East African Community (EAC) and supported by UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST).

The 7th Forum of Ministers of Social Development for Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by the Government of Ecuador and UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations Programme, took place in Quito (Ecuador) from 27 to 29 August 2009 with the support of UNICEF.

Forum of Ministers: Private Sector’s Social Responsibility in the Arab States 2008-11-07 8:00 am UNESCO
22 Ministers of Social Development from the Arab States met in Amman, Jordan, from 12 to 14 November 2008. At the invitation of their Jordanian counterpart and the UNESCO Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST), they attempted to identify and set up a common vision and the most appropriate means for coordinating their social policies.

Solidarity and social development in ECOWAS: Abidjan hosts the 2nd Forum of Ministers of Social Development, initiated by the MOST Programme of UNESCO 2008-09-25 2:00 pm UNESCO
The 2nd Forum of Ministers of Social Development of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) opened, this Thursday, 25 September 2008 in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), gathering together representatives from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. Collectively, they will try to identify common lines of action of solidarity and social development in order to establish a "regional social agenda”.

2nd Regional Forum of Ministers of Social Development from South Asia 2008-02-20 8:00 am UNESCO
The Ministers of Social Development of South Asian countries, members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation – SAARC (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) will participate in the 2nd Regional Forum being organized within the framework of UNESCO’s programme for the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) on 5 and 6 March 2008, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi (India).

Social Development: Successful round tables at UNESCO 2007-08-01 10:00 am SHS e-News 17 / August 2007
On July 16 and 17, a round table meeting of Ministers of Social Development from 19 countries took place in Paris during the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Council of the UNESCO programme on Management of Social Transformations (MOST).
