Zanzibar - Reaching out to the Socially Marginalized Most at Risk: the Young Population

The Zanzibar Youth Plan Association (ZYP) addressed, through this project, issues and problems with the provision of HIV/AIDS services to most-at-risk young people (MARYPs) in Zanzibar.

Timeframe: May-September 2011 

Objectives:

  • The provision of HIV/AIDS information and services to most at risks young population (MARYPs)
  • The building and strengthening of local capacity and community mobilization to improve comprehensive HIV/AIDS services.

Activities:

  • The development of organizational protocol and procedures for dealing with drug users (DU), men who have sex with men (MSM) and community sex workers (CSW);
  • Services at drop-in centers for face-to-face counseling;
  • Outreach services to DUs and CSWs;
  • Training and modular workshops on rights to health, psychological counseling for HIV/AIDS and MARYPS and harm reduction;
  • Public forums on rights to health, and mass media campaigns.
