International Fund for Cultural Diversity

The International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) is a multi-donor Fund established under Article 18 of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

The purpose of the IFCD is to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction in developing countries through support to projects/programmes and activities that aim to foster the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector. The IFCD will support those that are designed to:

  • facilitate the introduction of cultural policies that protect and promote the diversity of cultural expressions and, where appropriate, strengthen the corresponding institutional infrastructure; or
  • strengthen existing or foster new cultural industries.

Bangladesh

Diversity of Cultural Expressions: Ministerial Forum of the Asia and Pacific Region - US$ 38,000 

 The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (National Academy of Fine & Performing Arts) of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs is organizing a three-day ministerial Forum from 9 to 11 May 2012 to enhance regional cultural cooperation for development and encourage more countries in the Asia-Pacific region to ratify the 2005 Convention

Lao PDR

The First Seminar on Diversity of Cultural Expressions in Lao PDR - US$5,000

 With funding from the International Fund for Cultural Diversity and a contribution from UNESCO Bangkok, the Lao National Commission for UNESCO organized this first ever seminar on the 2005 Convention in Lao PDR. The event took place from 13 to 15 March 2012 in Vientiane.
The main objective of this event was to raise awareness, create a common understanding and open more channels for collaboration among leading governmental stakeholders. Twenty-one participants from twelve institutions, including several departments from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs took part in the workshop.

Cambodia

 Italian Association for Aid to Children (CIAI) ● INGO ● Cambodia ● US$81,341 

This INGO will work with Cambodia Living Arts to set up a youth professional artists’ association in Cambodia’s Seam Reap province to promote the rights and sustainability of young artists and cultural professionals. The Association will provide training, networking opportunities and legal advice to young artists, as well as promote the cultural industries as a vector for sustainable development and poverty reduction in the country.
