Beneficiary Countries

(Asia and the Pacific, 2012-2016)

In response to the States Parties' emphasis of the importance of strengthening the capacities of developing countries to effectively implement the Convention. UNESCO has focused its programmes for the 2010-2011 biennium on a global strategy of capacity building among Member States and will continue to do the same in future years.

In the Asia-Pacific Region, with the support of Japanese, Korean and Norwegian Funds-in-Trust, there are altogether 15 countries selected to benefit from UNESCO workshop series to increase national capacity for implementing the 2003 Convention in the areas that each nation is in need. Workshops in 10 countries -- Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Sri Lanka and Timor Leste -- are implemented through UNESCO Offices in Bangkok, Apia, Jakarta, New Delhi and Phnom Penh. Workshops implemented through UNESCO Offices in Almaty and Tashkent are in four countries, namely, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
