APMED2030 to Develop Roadmap for Implementation
of Education 2030 in Asia-Pacific

Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 to mark first step in coordinating regional action toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 on ‘inclusive and equitable’ education

BANGKOK, 20 NOVEMBER, 2015 In September of this year, the international community agreed to the bold and transformative vision of education for the year 2030 outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 4, which calls on all countries to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

It’s an agenda that has tremendous potential to reshape education throughout the region; however, the question remains: How will this goal be realized in Asia-Pacific and what will the roles and responsibilities be of all involved in education and development – from civil society organizations, UN agencies and intergovernmental organizations through to the highest levels of education policy planning?

Unpacking Education 2030 and what will be required to achieve it in the region is the goal of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED2030). As the agency entrusted to coordinate efforts to pursue this vision, UNESCO, in collaboration with partners, is organizing APMED2030 to prepare member states for the implementation of the Education 2030 agenda in Asia-Pacific.

WHEN: 25-27 November 2015

WHO: Over 200 participants from 40 countries will be joining in this high-level event, including education ministers and ministry representatives, civil society organizations focused on education, development partners, UN agency representatives, donors and researchers.

Prof. Kamjorn Tatiyakavee, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Thailand will deliver the welcome speech. APMED2030 is organized by UNESCO Bangkok, the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) and UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA).
