UNESCO Portal on Higher Education Institutions and the National Information Centres

The trend of globalization in higher education has raised increasing concerns about quality assurance, accreditation and recognition of qualifications. UNESCO launched a project to establish the UNESCO Portal on Higher Education Institutions as one approach to facilitate easy access to information on higher education institutions recognized, or otherwise sanctioned by competent authorities in participating countries. The information, managed and updated by authorized relevant entities in each country, contains the following information:

  • Institutions recognized by competent authorities;
  • Programmes recognized by competent authorities;
  • Information for students planning to study in the country;
  • Information on the higher education system;
  • Foreign credential assessment and recognition;
  • Financial assistance opportunities;
  • Cross-border higher education;
  • National Information Centre.

Currently, there are some 30 participating countries. For more information about the portal, visit http://portal.unesco.org/education/en/ev.php-URL_ID=49864&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html.

One activity of the ICT for Accessible, Effective and Efficient Higher Education Project, with the support of the Japanese Funds-in-Trust, is to facilitate the expansion of the Portal in the Asia and Pacific region.

More information on this activity will be provided as, and when it is available.
