Calling all Youth! Learning to Live Together

31.05.2013

Announcement: DEADLINE EXTENDED to 5 August 2013!

In an era of rising tension and conflict in many parts of the world including the Asia-Pacific Region, it is more important than ever that citizens, and young people in particular, are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to cultivate a culture of peace and respect for diversity.

The promotion of such a culture through education stands at the heart of UNESCO’s mission. Given this, UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education (UNESCO Bangkok) has launched a project entitled “Learning to Live Together through Education in the Asia-Pacific Region” and is undertaking a multi-country mapping exercise in order to better understand how education systems in particular promote “learning to live together.”

As a complement to the mapping exercise, UNESCO Bangkok wishes to invite youth in the region to contribute their own actions, ideas and perspectives on “learning to live together” (in education and beyond) via a photo and image competition. An Asia-Pacific exhibition is planned in Bangkok in order to showcase the submissions from across the region.

One winner of the competition will receive a tablet computer, other (runner up) winners will be publically acknowledged and the story behind their image(s) shared at this exhibition. Their submissions will also feature in UNESCO media.

Youth are invited to submit photos, images, drawings, paintings or any image that captures actions, ideas or initiatives that promote “learning to live together.” Submissions must include a caption or description in any language. Submissions may also include brief essays or stories to explain in further detail the context behind the image.

Participants must be between the ages of 15-35 and reside in the Asia-Pacific region. Please fill in this form and send all submissions via e-mail [epr.bgk(at)unesco.org] by Monday, 5 August 2013.

For more information, please contact Ramya Vivekanandan [r.vivekanandan(at)unesco.org] at the Education Policy and Reform Unit.
