UNESCO is funded from two main sources: Member States’ assessed contributions and voluntary contributions from donors.
Member States vote on a biennium budget approving programmes to be funded from the assessed contributions. Only programme and programme-related activities and projects are included in the portal. All included activities and projects must be financially active in 2015.
All projects funded from voluntary contributions are reported with the exception of Institutes and the UNESCO Brasilia Office.
UNESCO has 10 Category I Institutes operating as separate economic entities in pursuit of UNESCO’s goals and objectives.
The UNESCO Brasilia Office is also treated as a separate economic entity operating with a different functional currency from UNESCO’s main operations.
Data from these Institutes and the UNESCO Brasilia Office will be included in a later phase of the Transparency Project.
If a single project is funded from multiple sources then the names of the individual donors are not listed.
