Executive Summary of the Global Report “Re|Shaping Cultural Policies” now available in Portuguese

The Executive Summary of the 2015 edition of the Global Report “Re|Shaping Cultural Policies: A decade promoting the Diversity of Cultural Expression for Development”, is now available in Portuguese language.This translation was undertaken through the UNESCO Office in Brasilia, with the financial support of the Center Lucio Costa.

This landmark Global Report is UNESCO’s first report tracking the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, now ratified by 144 Parties, including the European Union.

Launched on 16 December 2015 at UNESCO Headquarters, the main objective of the Report is to help governmental and civil society actors jointly engage in data collection and policy monitoring and to increase the quality of knowledge produced, both at national and global levels. This Global Report provides a framework for future policy development in the area of culture.

Brazil, a Party to the Convention since 2007, has been a major actor in the preparation and promotion of the 2005 Convention. Brazil submitted its first quadrennial periodic report on the implementation of the Convention in 2012.

The Global Report includes, in particular, a message by Gilberto Gil, former Minister of Culture of Brazil and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. “In both the North and the South, artists and cultural professionals are not looking for special treatment, but for equal treatment. With the Convention, we can uphold the values of equitable access, openness and balance into the next decade”, he declares.

The Report was produced with the financial support of the Swedish Government, through the Swedish Development Agency for International Cooperation (Sida), within the framework of the project “Enhancing Fundamental Freedoms through the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions”.
