Following the partnership agreement with APCEIU on a three-year project under the theme of: “GCED Curriculum Development and Integration” targeting Cambodia, Colombia, Mongolia and Uganda, the IBE has been invited to participate as a partner on the first Capacity-building workshop to present the plan and discuss the progress of the situational analysis the IBE is currently leading in the four countries with the support of national focal points and international experts.
The two-day workshop, which took place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia the 18-19 of July 2016, has been organized with the purpose of promoting understanding and awareness of GCED and related issues; encouraging key stakeholders to foster GCED curriculum development and integration in the country; discussing the current situation and identifying needs, potential opportunities for intervention and challenges related to the implementation of GCED curriculum development and integration; providing input into country on-going situational analysis; and supporting the creation of the local GCED Curriculum Development Committee.
The IBE has been invited to inform about the relevance of the situational analysis and its specific contribution to this project as well as to present in details the research plan agreed with Cambodia focal point. Following the presentation, the IBE and the national expert facilitated a session in which participants expressed current concerns on the state of Cambodia education system, referring particularly to teachers’ role and lack of qualification, and discussed the possible entry points to implement GCED within the curriculum, reflecting specifically on the importance of considering other subjects besides Moral and Civic Education.
