Project established within the framework of the UNESCO-Libyan Funds in Trust collaboration and which gave rise to a number of initiatives notably the Biotechnology Research and training centre (BTRC), the Marine Research Centre among others. Various consultations have been undertaken with the representatives of the Libyan Authorities notably the General Director of the National Academy for Scientific Research (NASR), now the Libyan Authority for Research in Science and Technology (LARST) on re-activating the cooperation between UNESCO and Libya in support to projects under the LARST, with the aim to cover a broader scope of activities in keeping with the needs of Libya today.
