Ali Dastgheib PhD, MSc

Senior Lecturer in Port Development
Deputy Head of the WSE Department

Biography

Ali Dastgheib was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1978. He attended the NODET (National organization for development of exceptional talents) middle and high school from 1988 to 1995. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Civil engineering from Shiraz University, Iran in 1999. Later he received a Master of Science (Gold Medalist) in Civil Engineering - Hydraulic Structures from Amir Kabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic), Iran in 2001. Then he worked for Port and Maritime Organization of Iran for one year as a researcher in coastal engineering department. In late 2002 he co-founded Pouya Tarh Pars Consulting engineers and worked as a design manager dealing with port master planning and design of coastal structures.

In 2004 he became the head of coastal and port engineering department in Pouya Tarh Pars Consulting engineers. In April 2007 he graduated with another Master of Science in coastal engineering and port development from UNESCO-IHE, Delft after carrying out his graduation research in Deltares (known as WL | Delft Hydraulics at the time). In November 2012 he was awarded a PhD in coastal engineering from Delft University of Technology and UNESCO-IHE.

Since October 2007 he is working at UNESCO-IHE as a lecturer in port planning and coastal engineering carrying out research and advisory projects in the field of tidal basins and estuaries, coastal morphology, climate change adaptation, coastal risk, coastal zone management, port planning and port traffic simulation. In UNESCO-IHE he has guided more than 30 students during their research period and given lectures on many diverse subjects including coastal engineering, morphological modeling, port planning and design, traffic simulation, game theory, etc. In January 2014, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer. At the moment he is serving as the Deputy Head of the Water Science and Engineering Department of UNESCO-IHE.
