Dr. Jochen Wenninger

Senior Lecturer in Hydrology

Biography

Dr. Jochen Wenninger graduated in hydrology at the University of Freiburg, Germany in 2002. Before joining the Core of Hydrology and Water Resources at UNESCO-IHE, Delft, The Netherlands in 2008, he worked as a scientific staff member at the Institute of Hydrology in Freiburg engaged in research and lecturing. There he was mainly involved in experimental field research and laboratory work and managed the isotope laboratory of the institute. In June 2007, he obtained his PhD degree from the same University with the dissertation entitled “Studies of hydrological processes in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system”.

The main qualifications of Dr. Wenninger are in the area of catchment hydrology and hydrological processes research as well as large scale water resources assessment, planning and evaluation. His research is focused on the process knowledge and modelling of water fluxes at varying spatial and temporal scales. He has extensive experience in using tracer methods, especially natural water isotopes.

Dr. Wenninger is teaching parts of the MSc Programme in Hydrology and Water Resources, is involved in supervising MSc students, and is guiding PhD fellows during their research. He is experienced as researcher, expert and project leader in many projects in several European countries as well as in the eastern and southern parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
