Dr. Yong Jiang MSc

Senior Lecturer in Water Resources Economics

Biography

Dr. Jiang is Senior Lecturer in Water Resource Economics with the chair group of water management. He is also a senior researcher in the Department of Environmental Economics at VU University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His expertise is environmental and natural resource economics. Dr. Jiang coordinates module 4 water economics and module 11 watershed and river basin management in the Master of Sciences (MSc) programs in Water Management and Environmental Science, respectively. He lectures on water resource economics, watershed economics, benefit-cost analysis, economic and financial analysis, and statistical analysis for different modules across MSc programs in the Institute. In addition, he is also involved in capacity building and research projects, and supervise both master and ph.d. student  research related to water and environment.

Before joining in UNESCO-IHE, Dr. Jiang was research assistant professor and visiting assitant professor at North Dakota State University and Michigan State Unviersity in the U.S., respectively, from 2008-2012. In 2007, Dr. Jiang was selected as a John Knauss Marine Policy Fellow placed at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). In addition, he was appointed as a short-term consultant to the World Bank China Analytical Advisory Assistance (AAA) Program on China water resource management.

Dr. Jiang's research interest is broadly defined within environmental and natural resource economics and policy with strong publication records. Trained as an applied economist with background in science and engineering, Dr. Jiang is particularly interested in holistic, systematic, and multidisciplinary approaches to studying environmental and natural resource issues. He is enthusiastic about applying integrated, quantitative modeling approaches to understand human interaction with biophysical systems and to develop implications for policy. His research experience encompasses climate change and policy, weather and food security, land use policy, conservation biology, water resource management, integrated assessment of agricultural and environmental policy, and environmental valuation. He has rich experience working with different expertises in a mulitidisciplinary environment.

Dr Jiang has a Ph.D. in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, an M.S. in Environmental Planning and Management, and a B.E. in Environmental Engineering.
