Education
Education is a basic human right and the foundation for more sustainable, inclusive and just development. UNESCO, as the United Nations’ specialized agency in education, supports Member States in strengthening their education systems’ responsiveness to current and future demands, such as leading the international education community towards building consensus on the future post-2015 education agenda. UNESCO Education Sector’s mission is to improve education worldwide by providing international leadership, technical advice, standard-setting, capacity building and monitoring. The scope of the Sector’s work encompasses educational development from pre-school through primary, secondary and higher education, including technical and vocational education and training, non-formal education and adult learning. It focuses on increasing equity and access, improving quality, empowering learners to be responsible global citizens, and ensuring that education develops knowledge and skills in areas such a sustainable development, HIV and AIDS, human rights and gender equality.
The Organization works with governments, and a wide range of partners to make education systems more effective through policy change. It coordinates the Education for All movement, tracks education trends and speaks to raise the profile of educational needs on global development agendas. Click here for more information
