The main purpose of this workshop was to gain feedback from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region on the Draft 2009 UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics (FCS), particularly in terms of the definition of culture as it is understood in this region and the relevance of the methodology, as proposed by the FCS, to analyse the priorities of their cultural policies.
The workshop brought together selected statistical and policy officers from 5 countries from the region as well as experts from Universities and Regional organizations.
The objectives for this workshop were to:
1. Endorse the new Draft Framework for Culture Statistics, with the substantive comments and suggestions from the Latin American and Caribbean, NSOs and Cultural institutions, Cultural statistics experts;
2. Identify priority topics in the cultural statistics for the region;
3. Review and analyse challenges faced by Latin American and Caribbean countries in collecting cultural statistics.
