IBE sets the standards and guidelines for what must be regarded as quality curricula. If countries must benefit from the true development value of the curriculum, we must look beyond traditional conceptions, where the curriculum is viewed simply as a collection of syllabi, study plans, and textbooks. Instead, stakeholders must come to realise the more encompassing role of curriculum in supporting development through education. IBE is a global intellectual leader in this regard, as we continuously promote and support policy and technical dialogue on a renewed understanding of curriculum.
Our work with countries therefore involves deepening of understanding and paradigm shifts in curriculum by working to explicitly articulate the developmental value of curriculum to democratize learning and to create lifelong opportunities for all, as mandated by Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.
Our work also involves setting the norms and standards for what constitutes well-balanced curricula that could serve countries and their development needs. We are involved in the production, discussion, and validation of guidelines and tools needed for the design, development, and assessment of quality curricula.
