巴黎，11月2日——联合国教科文组织总干事伊琳娜·博科娃谴责对伊拉克电视台记者亚哈·阿尔-卡提德（Yahya al-Khatib）的谋杀，这名记者8月16日被暴力极端主义者杀害。
“我谴责杀害阿尔-卡提德的行径，”总干事说，“这样野蛮的行径令人无法容忍。公众有权力获取信息，记者和媒体工作者必须在不必为生命担忧的前提下工作。”
阿尔·卡提德在摩苏尔为Al-Mosuliyah 和Nineveh Al-Ghad 两家卫星电视频道工作，在那里被暴力极端主义者杀害。
联合国教科文组织总干事依据联合国教科文组织成员国在1997年教科文组织大会上采纳的29号决议就媒体工作者遇害事件发表题为“谴责针对记者的暴力行为”声明。这些声明可以在教科文组织谴责针对记者的暴力行为上找到。

UNESCO is the United Nations agency with a mandate to defend freedom of expression and press freedom. Article 1 of its Constitution requires the Organization to “further universal respect for justice, for the rule of law and for the human rights and fundamental freedoms which are affirmed for the peoples of the world, without distinction of race, sex, language or religion, by the Charter of the United Nations.” To realize this the Organization is requested to “collaborate in the work of advancing the mutual knowledge and understanding of peoples, through all means of mass communication and to that end recommend such international agreements as may be necessary to promote the free flow of ideas by word and image…”
