Peter Mawioo

PhD fellow

Biography

Peter Matuku Mawioo is a PhD research fellow in the Sanitary Engineering Chair Group in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Water Technology at UNSESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, and the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Delft University of Technology, Delft, the Netherlands. He is a Sanitary Engineer with a MSc. in Municipal Water and Infrastructure; specialization in Sanitary Engineering from UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, Delft, the Netherlands where he graduated in 2010. In his MSc research entitled Optimization of a Novel Submerged Membrane Bioreactor System, he investigated the application of Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology for the treatment of highly concentrated Industrial Wastewater in a food processing industry located in Wijchen, Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Peter graduated with a first class honors BSc degree in  the Department of Civil and Environemntal Engineering; speacialization in Water and Environmental Engineering from Egerton University, Kenya in 2006. He has worked as a Water and Sanitation Engineer in various projects in Kenya and south Sudan. In November 2011, he started his PhD. study in Sanitary Engineering focusing on the development of novel concepts and technologies for excreta and wastewater management in emergency relief.

He is also an astute businessman that has invested in a range of business lines in engineering and environment. Besides, Peter is a co-founder and member of the Mwangaza Development Initiative (MDI), a local organization in Kenya that nurtures talent among the youth and offers financial support to the bright and needy pupils to access high school education.
