Panama’s National Library Ernest J. Castillero R. hosted a training course in the use of CDS/ISIS, UNESCO's information retrieval and storage software, in Panama City in the first week of March. The event, organized under the auspices of UNESCO and the Panama National Library Foundation brought together more than 30 participants from 20 institutions of Panama, Belize and Nicaragua.
The course aimed at training a group of trainers in the use of CDS/ISIS and related tools. The participants were specialists in informatics or librarians with good working experience in the use of Winisis. The course was conducted by Ernesto Spinak, an engineer in computer systems, who has recently contributed to the development of the software IsisMarc for UNESCO.
CDS/ISIS is an advanced non-numerical information storage and retrieval software developed by UNESCO since 1985 to satisfy the need expressed by many institutions, especially in developing countries, to be able to streamline their information processing activities by using modern (and relatively inexpensive) technologies.
