UNESCO's New Communication Strategy gives high priority to encouraging the free flow of information, at international as well as national levels, to promoting its wider and better balanced dissemination, without any obstacle to the freedom of expression, and to strengthening communication capacities in the developing countries in order to increase their participation in the communication process.
Below are some examples of projects that were implemented thanks to the support of the IPDC.
International Freedom of Expression Exchange Network (IFEX)
IFEX is a global network of media professionals working to sensitise public and governmental authorities about press freedom and protection of journalists. IPDC has supported IFEX in its efforts to defend the right to freedom of expression. >> More
Media Institute for South Africa (MISA)
Following the Windhoek declaration on promoting an independent and pluralistic African press, IPDC contributed to the establishment of MISA in 1992, which now promotes the free flow of information, democracy and human rights in Africa. >> More
Latin American Newspaper Network for a Culture of Peace (REDIPAZ) and Latin American Network of Radio Stations for a Culture of Peace (RADIPAZ)
Both networks were set up to promote a culture of peace in the region. They have well integrated into the print and broadcast media and revealed the significant demand for production, training and professional back-up within the region. >> More
Grassroots
"Grassroots" is a monthly selection of rural reportages from a wide range of local and community newspapers from different parts of India. It provides an excellent model of coverage of urgent rural issues that need to be brought to public attention. >> More
Strengthening Radio Education in Bolivia
This project, carried out by the IPDC in collaboration with the NGO Educación Radiofonica de Bolivia, aims at promoting freedom of expression and widening access to information, with a specific focus on rural zones and indigenous communities. >> More
