UNESCO-IHE offers a great opportunity for one to become a future water leader, who is able to tackle some of the water problems the world is facing.
What made you decide to study this particular program?
Zimbabwe is part of the countries that fall in the Sub Saharan Africa region, where access to water and sanitation services still lags behind. Zimbabwe is also off track in achieving the targets set out in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's). Therefore, l would like to contribute towards improving access to water and sanitation in the region as well as in my country through the knowledge l will gain by studying water services management at UNESCO-IHE, Netherlands.
Can you say something about studying in Delft/the Netherlands? (Cultural and social experiences)
My time here in Delft has been an amazing experience, especially living in such a diversified cultural and social environment. I have not only gained academic knowledge, but also got to understand and learn various cultures totally different from mine.
What kind of professional background do you need to succeed in this program?
The WSM programme is composed of students with different educational and professional backgrounds in view of the IWRM approach. My colleagues are engineers, social workers, as well as economists. Despite the various backgrounds there is need to have some experience in the water sector so as to understand and succeed and also to share your own experiences from your country.
Why should new students/water professionals choose this program?
Poor water and sanitation impacts negatively on public health, hence it is important to have more students gaining knowledge on how to improve service delivery in this sector and reduce the number of children and adults who die due to water related diseases.
