UNESCO’s "Model Curricula for Journalism Education" that is intended to enhance the capacities of media training institutions to provide high quality education for journalists will be presented on 19 and 20 July 2010 in Kathmandu.
The event, which will be moderated by Hara Padhy, Programme Specialist, Communication Development Division, UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, is aimed at presenting the model curricula and exploring the possibilities of their adaptation by media training institutions in Nepal.

UNESCO’s Model Curricula for Journalism Education, which highlight the connection between democracy and journalism, is aimed at assisting media training institutions to create quality training programmes. The model curricula can easily be adapted to the specific social, economic, political and cultural context of Nepal.

The model curricula include 17 courses written by media professionals who have worked in countries in transition. They form a complete and homogeneous teaching programme enabling students to understand and to master essential tools for quality journalism. The model curricula offer a set of competencies, course listings and descriptions for bachelor, masters and diploma programmes.

The Model Curricula for Journalism Education is currently available in seven languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Nepali, Russian and Spanish. To download the publication in these languages in PDF please click here.
