Abdin Mohamed Ali Salih

Biography

Prof. Abdin Mohammed Ali Salih is currently a Board Member at UNESCO-IHE. His educational background includes first class honor degree in Civil Engineering from Khartoum and DIC and a PhD from Imperial College, London in 1973. Various academic positions at many universities in Africa, Middle East, Europe and USA with full Professorship since 1982 at the University of Khartoum. Worked for UNESCO from 1993 to 2008 as regional Hydrologist in Cairo, Deputy secretary of the International Hydrological Program of UNESCO(IHP) in Paris and Director of UNESCO regional Offices in Cairo and Tehran. After retirement from UNESCO in 2008 he was elected as the President of the Intergovernmental Council of the IHP of UNESCO till 5th July 2010. He is still a member of the Bureau of the IHP and Member of the Governing Board of the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. He served as a consultant to many UN organizations such as ESCWA,WB,WMO,UNU, UNESCO; National, Regional and International Consultancy firms; Organizations outside the Sudan, etc.

He is also a member of many scientific organizations such as IAHR, IWRA, IAHS,IAH, ICID,AWC..etc and a fellow of TWAS, African Academy of Science and awarded ISESCO AWARD for excellence in Science. He is currently a professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Khartoum. Published over 80 publications, mostly in the area of Water Resources.
