Start: 25 September 2017
End: 29 September 2017
Deadline IHE application: 25 August 2017 - 23.59 (CET)
Course fee: € 950

Learning objectives

Upon completion, the participant should be able to:

  1. Setup a HEC-RAS model
  2. Calibrate a HEC-RAS model
  3. Use HEC-RAS for hydraulic modelling
  4. Interpret results of a HEC-RAS model

HEC-RAS is a software program that models hydrodynamics of flow in a river and/or channel. It is used to determine if for a given discharge the flow exceeds the river bank levels. Flooding studies can be carried out to determine the flood extent and volume.

Prerequisites

It is expected that participants have good computer skills and basic knowledge of hydraulics.

Course content

  1. Introduction to river flow routing;
  2. Basic equations of unsteady flow in rivers;
  3. Introduction to HEC-RAS. Modelling capabilities;
  4. Modelling Floods using HEC-RAS;
  5. Structures;
  6. Modelling dam breaks.

Methods

  • Lectures;
  • Computer exercises.
