Water Management

The Water Management chair group provides capacity building and advisory services in the fields of water resources management, water services management and environmental planning.

The Water Management (WM) chair group, which was formally established on 1 October 2011, offers postgraduate education and professional training courses, initiates and conducts research activities, and provides capacity building and advisory services in the fields of water resources management, water services management and environmental planning.

The expertise of the WM chair group focuses on the linkages between the biophysical, technological, social, institutional and economic dimensions of water systems.

The chair group acknowledges that the most pressing contemporary challenges in the water sector concern issues that encompass physical and non-physical aspects simultaneously. Innovations will have to deal with the two-way dynamic of such challenges.

It is our strong conviction that such innovations may be found, and improved intervention strategies may be developed, if the interplay between the physical technological, social, institutional and economic processes involving water systems is better understood.

The mission of the WM chair group

"to contribute to developing and managing sustainable water systems through a better scientific understanding of their functioning considering all relevant dimensions by means of conducting research, and through providing education, training and advisory services."
