ICeWATER (ICT solutions for efficient Water management) is an EU FP7 project focused on increasing water and energy efficiencies in water supply systems by making use of advanced ICT technologies. The project uses latest wireless technologies for connecting to various types of sensors for real-time monitoring of water supply and demand parameters. This information is subsequently used by Decision Support System (DSS) components based on simulation and optimization models for providing most efficient operational strategies (pressure and energy management, pump scheduling, etc). UNESCO-IHE is mainly involved in the research components related to integration of simulation and optimization models in the DSS components. The project is a collaboration of large industrial partners (Siemens and Toshiba), two water utilities (Metropolitana Milanese from Milano, Italy and Aquatim from Timisoara, Romania), several research institutes (CMR and ItalData, Italy; ICCS, Greece and UNESCO-IHE, The Netherlands) and a project management company (K&S;, Germany).
