The aim of this project is to contribute to the improvement of Integrated River Basin Management in Ethiopia, to ensure future environmental and economic sustainability of water and other natural resources in Ethiopia. The project seeks to establish and enhance national coordination and collaboration between the Higher Education Institutions on one side and with the national and regional agencies for river basin and watershed management policy and implementation on the other. It also seeks to strengthen the BSc/BA and MSc/MA and PhD training and research programmes at AAU and at seven (7) other Ethiopian universities. Both the training and research programmes will need to integrate Integrated river Basin Management and Integrated Water Resource management concepts, with attention for gender issues. Academic and technical staff will need to be trained and laboratory and library facilities in eight universities be improved to support research activities. The project will contribute to gender mainstreaming. The project will involve faculties in eight public universities, and a national coordination centre at Addis Ababa University.
