The aim of the project is to establish a water institute in Benin and to develop capacity for water education at the University of Abomey Calavi and the technical schools in Benin. The water institute will respond to the demands for water expertise from the society by supporting the government and cooperation with the public and private sector. The Netherlands has recently gained a lot of experience in conceptual development and concretisation of such institutes. Hence a Dutch consortium has formed with Wageningen University, UNESCO-IHE, Deltares and Delft University of Technology, led by Van Hall Larenstein. Together with the University of Abomey Calavi they will give substance to the ambitions of the project. Special attention will be given to issues of gender and entrepreneurship.
