The aim of the project was to develop a long-term partnership for education and research in water and ecosystems interactions among the Chinese and Dutch partners. The project included the following activities: (1) Training of researchers and trainers of Chinese partner institutes to enable them to execute education and research programmes developed in the project independently; (2) Establishment of a research catchment in Erdos Plateau (located in Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi province, China) to be used as a case study to facilitate training and research activities; (3) Development of a module curriculum in water and ecosystem interactions to be implemented as a pilot training course during the project and to be offered as a regular program by partners in the future; (4) Joint organisation of the developed pilot training course for water managers and decision-makers from provincial and local governments in Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi province, China; and (5) Formulation of a partnership plan for long-term cooperation in joint MSc education and PhD research in water and ecosystem interactions.
