Fellowship Trust Fund

Our future water leaders are capable of improving the lives of people in villages, towns and cities around the world. To ensure that we can continue this mission, we request financial support for partial or full fellowships. The UNESCO-IHE Fellowship Trust Fund raises funds from private and public organizations, companies, alumni and other (individual) benefactors. These contributions support partial or full fellowships. Students from developing countries can take an online course, short courses, an MSc or PhD programme.

Be part of the solution

The world is facing several water-related issues, due to population growth, climate change, urbanization, industrialization and other major changes.

About 2.4 billion people are lacking access to improved sanitation. And 783 million people are still without access improved sources of drinking water. Solving these complex issues is difficult as most developing countries lack sufficiently trained professionals who can tackle these global challenges.

Therefore, investing in education for these water professionals is investing in a sustainable solution.

Why UNESCO-IHE?

UNESCO-IHE is the largest international graduate water education institute in the world. The Institute confers fully accredited MSc degrees, and PhD degrees in collaboration with partners in the Netherlands. Since 1957, the institute has provided postgraduate education to over 14,500 water professionals from over 160 countries, the vast majority from developing countries.

About 97% of our graduates return to their home countries to take up senior positions and over the years has made significant contributions to the development of the water and environmental sectors. Even ten years after leaving the institute, some 87% of our alumni are still active in the water sector.

The mission of UNESCO-IHE is to contribute to the education and training of professionals and to build the capacity of sector organizations.
