'Support to Media in Violent Conflict and in Countries in Transition'
  • In May 2003, UNESCO and Sida jointly organized a seminar on ”Assistance to Media in Tension Areas and Violent Conflict.” This booklet is a compilation of the discussion papers produced for the seminar, reflecting the outcomes of the discussions.

    Remzi Lani is Executive Director of the Albanian Media Institute. He has also worked as chief editor of "Zeri i Rinise" and media coordinator with Soros, has worked as a correspondent for "El Mundo" and "Zeri", has written articles on Balkan Affairs, and is co-author of "My Albania Ground Zero" and "Masters of Humanist Philosophy". He is the first President of the South East Network of Media Centers and Media Institutes and a founding member of the first Human Rights Group in Albania.

  • Rodney Pinder is Director of the International News Safety Institute, formed by the global news media and journalist groupings out of concern at the rising death toll amongst journalists worldwide. Pinder, 60, was a foreign correspondent and news executive for Reuters 30 years and has wide experience of covering wars and civil conflicts.

    Azer H.Hasret has worked in the field of journalism since 1995. He has been a reporter and columnist for 'Khabar Service' News Agency, "Azadliq" daily and the English-language online edition, "Baku Today". He is Chairman of CASCFEN (Central Asian and Southern Caucasian Freedom of Expression Network, Baku), Secretary General of AJK (Azerbaijan Journalists Confederation, Baku), Board Member of INSI (International News Safety Institute, Brussels), and a Council Member of IFEX.

  • Nebojsa Spaic is the Executive Director of Media Centre Belgrade. In the past he has been Mentor for Radio Journalism at the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences, Programme Director of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation Radio Beograd 202, and Head of the Press Centre at the 'Media Centre Belgrade.' He is also the author of four books.

  • Gojko Berić, a journalist for over 40 years, is a leading columnist with the Sarajevo daily Oslobođenje. He has won awards, including the Oslobođenje Life’s Work Award. In 1992 he was declared journalist of the year in BiH, and received the Sarajevo Award for Culture. He is the writer of Smrt u ljetnom Dubrovniku (Death in Summer-time Dubrovnik) Sarajevo na kraju svijeta (Sarajevo at the end of the World) and Pisma nebeskom narodu (Letters to a Celestial Nation – proclaimed book of the year 2000 in BiH.

    Marco Domenicioni is a radio/tv journalist for the Swiss Public Broadcaster ‘SRG-SSR idee suisse’. Since 1995 he also works as a consultant for the Hirondelle Foundation with which he has worked on many missions as project manager, responsible for communicaton and the training of journalists.

    Mr. Edetaen Ojo is the Vice Chair of the Media Foundation for West Africa based in Accra, Ghana and Executive Director of Media Rights Agenda in Nigeria. He holds a Bachelors degree in English Studies from the University of Ife in Nigeria and a Masters degree in International Journalism from City University, London. He is the Coordinator of the Partnership for Media and Conflict Prevention in West Africa.
