Intergovernmental Council for UNESCO's Information for All Programme Meets in Paris

The presentation of the "Policy Guidelines for the Development and Promotion of Governmental Public Domain Information" will be one of the highlights on the agenda of the 3rd session of the Intergovernmental Council for UNESCO's Information for All Programme that starts today in Paris, France.
The Council that will meet for three days will also discuss UNESCO's contribution to the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis, in November 2005 . It will also look at the follow-up to the "Recommendation concerning the Promotion and Use of Multilingualism and Universal Access to Cyberspace" and the "Charter on the Preservation of Digital Heritage" that UNESCO(s Member States adopted in October 2003.
Created in 2000, the Information for All Programme provides a platform for international policy discussions and guidelines for action on preservation of information and universal access to it, participation of all in the emerging global information society and ethical, legal and societal consequences of ICT developments. Its Intergovernmental Council is composed of representatives of 26 Member States guiding the planning and implementation. The present chair, Graciela Fernandez-Baca of Peru ends her term during this session when a new Council President will be elected.
