Silks from the Silk Road: Origin, Transmission and Exchange is the catalogue for the exhibition “Silks from the Silk Road: Origin, Transmission and Exchange” that took place in September to October 2015 at Hangzhou West Lake Museum.

The exhibition was hosted by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, and jointly assisted by eight provincial bureaus of cultural heritage of Zhejiang, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was organized by China National Silk Museum with the supports from 25 other museums and archaeological institutes in China.

The book introduces nearly 140 pieces/sets of precious collections that were shown at the exhibition. By showing the silk and related items unearthed during the major time period and major route along the Silk Road, the book illustrates the origin of silk in China, the spread of silk from the East to the West and the exchanges of textile culture between the East and the West along the Silk Road. It also explores the spirit of the Silk Road and the objectives of the Belt and Road Strategy which was put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The book also provides a glossary of technical terms for the craftsmanship of silk and other textile.
