A workshop on organizing information and publishing it on line and offline using the Greenstone software brought together some twenty trainees at the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyong, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, last week
The UNESCO supported training (15-18 November 2005) focused on strengthening capacities of national institutions in access to information and distance learning and developing ICT skills of information professionals from public and university libraries.

The workshop was based on PowerPoint presentations, discussions, exercises and questionnaires. 22 participants learnt how to create, maintain, administrate and use digital books collections.

In the end of the workshop, most of trainees expressed the wish to have a longer follow-up course in the future proposing to better.

They also expressed their wish to build up closer digital collaboration between Central Asian countries promoting Free and Open Source Software and proposed developing applications and training programmes for teachers from rural areas and for using ICT to the fight against poverty.

Greenstone is a suite of software for building and distributing digital library collections. It provides a. Greenstone is produced by the New Zealand Digital Library Project at the University of Waikato, and developed and distributed in cooperation with UNESCO and the Human Info NGO. It is open-source, multilingual software, issued under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
