On 26 August 2016, the Social and Human Sciences Programme of the UNESCO Office in Almaty is organizing the First Almaty Youth Forum on Sustainable Development: “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption” dedicated to the celebration of International Youth Day 2016.

The Forum focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable production and consumption.

Youth representatives will have an opportunity to present their projects and start-ups on sustainable development and in particular food security, water sustainability, energy utilization, ecological efficiency, sustainable transport and innovations in relation with Kazakhstan's transition to a Green Economy Model.

Experts from international organisations, national companies, public authorities and civil society actors will attend the Forum to exchange experiences with youth participants and identify solutions for sustainability.

By the end of the Forum a list of the most successful projects and start-ups will be presented to governmental structures for support of their implementation.

The development and encouragement of individual actions and alternative choices that decrease waste and pollution and maximize the eco-efficiency of consumption of all is vital to achieving equitable socio-economic development and elimination of poverty. Investing in sustainable production creates new markets, youth employment opportunities and promotes social inclusion for all.

Thus, the Forum will provide youth a platform for dialogue on global challenges they are facing today and an opportunity to contribute in decision-making processes.
