UIS holds joint workshop on information and communication technology (ICT) in education
The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), in collaboration with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE), is organizing a regional training workshop for statisticians from Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia on the production of cross-nationally comparable data on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in education.
The event will take place in Moscow (Russian Federation) from 25-27 November 2015. The international community has recognized the potential role of ICT to achieve the education targets in the new Sustainable Development Goals, as reflected in the Incheon and Qingdao Declarations.
In response, this workshop will focus on key concepts and methodologies to collect data required to better inform key policies such as: the integration of ICT into curricular reform; the use of different types of ICT in primary and/ or secondary programmes; deployment patterns throughout schools; participation rates for boys and girls in programmes using ICT for pedagogical purposes; and teacher preparedness for use of ICT in the classroom.
This training workshop will also help countries participate in the Institute’s first global survey on ICT in education data, which will be launched in December 2015. The results of this survey can be used for evidence-based policymaking while monitoring progress towards key targets of the SDGs.
