Members of the Commission
International Law Commission, 2012–2016.
The International Law Commission was established by the General Assembly, in 1947, to undertake the mandate of the Assembly, under article 13 (1) (a) of the Charter of the United Nations to "initiate studies and make recommendations for the purpose of ... encouraging the progressive development of international law and its codification".

The Commission will be holding its sixty-eighth session at the United Nations European Headquarters in Geneva from 2 May to 10 June and from 4 July to 12 August 2016:

Recent Developments

Protection of persons

2 August 2016The Commission began consideration of Chapter IV of its report on the topic and adopted sections A, B and part of E including the commentary to draft articles 1 to 3 (A/CN.4/L.882 and Add.1).

Protection of the environment

28 July 2016 Text of the draft principles provisionally adopted in 2015 and technically revised and renumbered during the present session by the Drafting Committee (A/CN.4/L.870/Rev.1).

Immunity of State officials

27 July 2016 The Commission considered and adopted the draft articles 2(f) and 6, which were taken note of during the sixty-seventh session. The Commission continued its consideration of the Special Rapporteur’s report on the topic.

Provisional application of treaties

27 July 2016 The Special Rapporteur summed up the debate on his fourth report on the topic (A/CN.4/699). The Commission decided to refer draft guideline 10 to the Drafting Committee.

Immunity of State officials

26 July 2016 The Special Rapporteur, Ms. Concepción Escobar Hernández, introduced her fifth report on the topic (A/CN.4/701). The Commission began its consideration of the Special Rapporteur’s report.
