The UIS has launched its annual survey of formal education
The 2016 Survey of Formal Education covers key data for the school year ending in 2015 required for the monitoring of international and national education goals.
In order to improve the timeliness of the data and to better align with national and international reporting structures, we have reverted to our previous schedule of launching the survey at the beginning of each calendar year.
In addition, the questionnaires have been updated to reflect the latest ISCED fields of education and training (ISCED-F 2013) to support emerging data needs.
The deadline for submitting data is 29 April 2016. Country-level data and indicators from the survey will be released in November 2016 via the UIS Data Centre. Regional and global results for the school year ending in 2015 will be released in May 2017.
A timely response to this survey is essential to produce high-quality, cross-nationally comparable data and indicators, which are used to monitor and report on international development goals related to education, including the education goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These statistics are used widely by countries, international and regional organizations, the media, academics and students.
The data collected from this survey will also be published in a range of international reports and databases, such as the Global Education Monitoring Report, the UNDP Human Development Report, the World Bank’s World Development Indicators and UNICEF’s State of the World’s Children.
