Ella Angreni Sihombing

Other institutions or universities might be good for many science and engineering programmes, but when it comes to water, I believe this is the best choice.

What have been the highlights of your study?
My bachelor degree is in Civil Engineering, so for me, studying Environmental Science at UNESCO-IHE is a challenge. I am studying Environmental Planning and Management and I have never been properly introduced to politics, policy, institutions and governance. By working on many case studies, group work, field and lab work, and many interactive activities, instead of only learning it from the lectures and books, I can become famililar with those new areas. I have found some assignments very challenging but the collaborative part of the assignments made it more rich and interesting, making it easier to understand and learn.

Why did you pick UNESCO-IHE for your studies?
I was working in the Department of Drinking Water in Indonesia. I chose UNESCO-IHE because I believe this is a specialist institution for the study of water. Moreover, since the experience of the institution in the water world is so significant, it is perfect to help me achieve my career ambition. Other institutions or universities might be good for many science and engineering programmes, but when it comes to water, I believe this is the best choice.

Do you know what you will be doing afterwards?
I would like to increase my capacity and knowledge through further education and/or work again to apply my new knowledge.

What is it like to live in Delft? Do you like the atmosphere?
Delft is the best city in the Netherlands. Delft is a small city that has its own story, far from modern lifestyle but at the same time not outdated. Moreover, since there are a lot of students here, I can easily meet new people in Delft, join many communities, visit many places and build friendships.

Would you recommend UNESCO-IHE to prospective students?
I highly recommend UNESCO-IHE to those who are interested to learn about water resources and the environment, especially for developing countries, for example Indonesia.
