Kenichi Umeyama

I choose this programme because it would give me the opportunity to study at two renowned international organizations.

East Asia and Pacific
Japan East Asia and Pacific

What made you decide to study this particular program?
I chose this programme because it would give me the opportunity to study at two renowned international organizations, one in an emerging country Thailand and another in industrialized country the Netherlands. Both of these institutes have a lot of experience and knowledge on water and environmental studies and they help me to learn about water issues through an interdisciplinary approach.

Can you say something about studying in Delft/the Netherlands? (Cultural and social experiences)
Delft is a small but amazing city, with beautiful historic landscapes, international atmosphere, nice market on Thursday and Saturday and many restaurants and bars. From Delft you can easily go to Rotterdam and The Hague.

What kind of professional background do you need to succeed in this program?
It's better to have a background of engineering or science in this program. In addition, work experience in relevant fields must be a strong advantage in your success since most of the students are mid-career professionals and we have many opportunities to discuss with them.

Why should new students/water professionals choose this program?
Both AIT and UNESCO-IHE have a lot of experience and knowledge on water and environmental studies. Students and professionals from all over the world are stimulated by each other. It is also nice to develop a network with them.

Do you have any advice for new students?
Although the program is intense, do not forget to "study hard and play hard". You will find many opportunities in academic, social and cultural live. Be conscientious and you will have memorable days.
