Mexico lacks up-to-date knowledge in the field of hydrology and water resources. So having this specific knowledge opens up a lot of opportunities.

What made you decide to study this particular programme?
Mexico lacks up-to-date knowledge in the field of hydrology and water resources. So having this specific knowledge, opens a lot of opportunities. However, during former projects I experienced that I had to gain even more specialized and sound  instruction to accomplish my personal goals. This MSc programme gives me opportunities to gain that knowledge.

Can you say something about studying in Delft/the Netherlands? (Cultural and social experiences)
Despite the Dutch weather, I'm definitely enjoying my time in the Netherlands. The people are very friendly and they all speak English. I think the architecture is beautiful, especially in Delft. It's a nice small city, with ancient buildings and canals.

What kind of professional background do you need to succeed in this programme?
My classmates have background as civil engineer, environmental engineer or geologist. Those are the most useful backgrounds for Hydrology and Water Resources. Personally, I have a chemical engineering background, but have a lot of work experience in environmental engineering as well. At least you should be good in math and physics.

Why should new students/water professionals choose this programme? And do you have any advice?
The lack of proper water resources is becoming an increasingly urgent problem. So the need for professionals with a specialization in water resources will increase as well. If you are interested in this programme it would be wise to ask around for reviews. Furthermore, I can strongly recommend everyone to practice your English skills. An MSc already is very demanding, so you really don't want to waste too much time and energy on the language while being here.

What are you going to do once back home?
I would like to go back to Mexico and continue working for our government. I would probably have the same job as I had before, but my tasks and responsibilities would change. For example, thanks to my specialization I'd be able to actively participate in the development of new policies.
