For candidates seeking financial assistance to cover all or part of their studies in one of the UNESCO-IHE programmes or courses, please see the list of known fellowship opportunities below.

  • Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN)

    The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a group of development agencies with mandates that include the environment, health, education, architecture, culture, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise and the revitalisation of historic cities. The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to prepare them for employment, primarily within the AKDN.

    The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries:  Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique.

  • Citadel Scholarships for Professionals from Egypt

    The Citadel Capital Scholarship Foundation was created in 2007, out of a strong will to contribute to national development through creating high caliber professionals to help enhance Egypt's growth in all sectors. The Foundation is funded by an endowment from Citadel Capital to grant academic scholarships for talented and promising young Egyptian men and women to pursue master degrees and PhDs abroad in all fields of study.

  • Erasmus+

    A limited number of EU Erasmus Mundus Scholarships is available on a competitive basis for one of the Erasmus Mundus programmes in which UNESCO-IHE participates: GroundwatCH. Read more about fellowships opportunities on the website of the programme.

  • Joint Japan Worldbank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP)

    Participants from World Bank member countries can apply for a fellowship from the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP). Please note that the deadline for JJ/WBGSP scholarship applications for the academic year 2016-17 has passed.

  • LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education)

    For students with Indonesian nationality, graduated from an accredited Indonesian university or an overseas university acknowledged by the Indonesian Higher Education Directorate (DIKTI), maximum age 35 (for Master’s programme) or 40 (for PhD programme).

  • MEDRC Scholarship Program

    The MEDRC Scholarship Program offers graduate students from the MENA region the opportunity to study at universities from around the world while participating in a MEDRC research project. Through this approach, it is expected that students will gain skills that will make a long-term contribution to the further development of desalination in their respective countries. The Program also aims to increase cross-cultural understanding by stimulating international exchange (for prospective students from the MENA region interested in the WSE specialization of the UWS programme).

  • MENA (or MSP) scholarship programme

    The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Scholarship Programme (or MSP) offers scholarships for short courses to professionals from ten countries. The scholarships can be used for short courses in the Netherlands. The programme is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • National Fellowships in Latin America

    These fellowships are for nationals from the mentioned Latin American country.

    Your country might also offer individual fellowships for studies abroad, contact your national Ministry of Education or a similar organisation/agency for more information.

  • Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP)

    The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) promote capacity building within organisations in 51 countries by providing training and education through fellowships for professionals.

    The overall aim of the NFP is to help increase both the number and the competencies of skilled staff at a wide range of governmental and non-governmental organisations. You have to be nominated by your employer to be eligible for the fellowship. There also has to be a clear need for training within the context of your organisation.

  • OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) Scholarship Award

    The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support an undergraduate student from any developing country, to pursue higher education in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world.

  • Rotary Scholarship for Water and Sanitation Professionals

    Rotary and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education are working together to tackle the world’s water and sanitation crisis by increasing the number of trained professionals to devise, plan, and implement solutions in developing and emerging countries. Through this partnership, The Rotary Foundation will award 10 scholarships annually for graduate students working or living near a Rotary club and provisionally admitted to one of the following MSc programmes (joint programmes are not eligible):

    • MSc in Urban Water and Sanitation
    • MSc in Water Management
    • MSc in Water Science and Engineering

  • Schlumberger Foundation/Faculty for the Future

    The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future program is awarding fellowships and supporting women academics in science and engineering from developing and emerging countries for their advanced graduate study at top universities abroad.

  • SIDS Fellowship

    UNESCO-IHE will provide at least 20 key water professionals with MSc level education on relevant topics for the Small Island Developing States (SIDS), in two batches starting in 2015 and 2016. The 18 month Delft-based MSc programmes includes 6 months' field based research, to be conducted on specific problems in the home country of the participant. Furthermore, UNESCO-IHE will provide at least 50 water professionals and decision makers with specific expertise on relevant topics, by enabling them to enrol in UNESCO-IHE Short Courses that start in 2016 and 2017.

    SIDS Fellowships strengthen the capacity of professionals and decision makers to improve water management in SIDS, to better address future challenges such as coping with the effects of climate change.

  • Sino-Dutch Bilateral Exchange Scholarship

    The Sino-Dutch Bilateral Exchange Scholarship focuses on excellent Chinese students who want to study or do research in the Netherlands for at least one academic year during or after their studies in China.

  • Stuned Scholarship Programme

    The stuned Scholarship Programme is open for professionals from all over Indonesia who have completed a Bachelor study, in particular educators, government officials, ngo officials and journalists. Stuned aims at a balanced gender representation (minimum 50% women) and gives preference to candidates from less developed areas in Indonesia.

    Tip

    The deadline for applications for a Stuned Scholarship is March 1 for Short Courses and April 1 for Masters Programmes.

  • WMO Fellowships

    WMO is partnering with UNESCO-IHE to jointly support two to three fellowships a year from developing and least developed countries to undertake an MSc in one of the agreed UNESCO-IHE programmes.

    To be considered for a fellowshipfor the academic year 2016-2018 under WMO / UNESCO-IHE joint funding applicants must:
    a) have unconditional admission to one of the following UNESCO-IHE programmes: Hydrology and Water Resources; Hydraulic Engineering and River Basin Development; Hydraulic Engineering - Land and Water Development; Water Resources Management; Hydroinformatics - Modelling and Information Systems for Water Management; Water Quality Management; or, Hydraulic Engineering - Coastal and Port Development. Unconditional admission implies UNESCO-IHE have agreed to both your academic and language suitability.
    b) complete and submit a WMO Fellowship Nomination Form (FNF) to WMO by 1 March 2016. The FNF MUST be submitted through, and approved by, the Permanent Representative (PR) of your country with WMO, click here for the contact details of the PR of your country. Please note that the PR may give preference to personnel from the National Meteorological Service or National Hydrological Service of their country.     c) be medically fit (see WMO FNF for details).
    d) inform Ms Ineke Melis, UNESCO-IHE liaison officer for WMO fellowships, in case you are going to request WMO support: i.melis@unesco-ihe.org


    For WMO to consider the fellowship nomination all of the above conditions must be met. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified through the PR of their country by the end of July 2016. For further information email: detr@wmo.int.
