The primary purpose of this project is to facilitate and coordinate the activities of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/IOTWS) in order to promote best practices in tsunami risk assessment and reduction; tsunami detection, warning and dissemination; and tsunami awareness and response with the ultimate goal of reducing the loss of lives in the coastal communities of the Indian Ocean region.
