Photo and television contest to commemorate World Press Freedom Day

UNESCO’s Office in Moscow supports the international photo and television contest, Reporting that Changed the Future, which is open to journalists and photographers from the Commonwealth of Independent States and Eastern Europe. The main goal of the contest is to join efforts of media professionals in fostering freedom of expression and freedom of information.
The contest to commemorate World Press Freedom Day is conducted for the fourth time this year. Since its inception it has grown in prestige and the number of participants to become an important platform for the exchange of views and ideas about the social portrait of the modern Eurasia. The contest attracts both well-known media professionals, and young journalists and photographers. About 140 participants submit their works every year, which generates an extensive coverage of World Press Freedom Day in the regional media of at least 10 countries.

Winners of the contest will be selected by a jury of prominent media professionals. A special prize will honour a media organization for the continuous promotion of freedom of information. An award ceremony will take place on 3 May to commemorate World Press Freedom Day 2010, which focuses this year on freedom of information.

Best photos submitted to the contest will be exhibited at the Central House of Journalists in Moscow and displayed on the Eurasia Media Centre website. A public broadcasting of best video reports will also be part of the commemoration of World Press Freedom Day.

The contest is organized by the Eurasia Media Centre in cooperation with Russian and Eurasian associations of journalists, with the support of UNESCO’s Moscow Office the International Academy of Television and Radio.
