Amapola Alama is the IBE Programme Specialist since 2011. She is responsible for the support of countries that are in the process of improving the quality and sustainability of their education systems, by improving the ability to read, write and count as well as by promoting peace education. Ms Alama has 22 years of experience in supporting education ministries in their reform processes across more than 30 countries. Previously, she worked as a program director at the Organisation of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture in Spain for 11 years and was also responsible for the education sector of the Spanish Authority on Development in Morocco for 5 years.

She holds a Master of Arts in International Education from Sussex University in England, a Master in development studies from the Complutense University in Madrid and an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa Business School in Spain. In addition, Ms Alama has an MPhil in Mediterranean, Iberian and Ibero-American Studies from the University of Lyon II in France.
