The Seychelles has launched the second phase of the GEQAF initiative, becoming the third partner country to do so after Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Seychelles has launched the second phase of the GEQAF initiative, becoming the third partner country to do so after Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. GEQAF Phase II workshop was officially launched by the Seychelles Minister of Education, Mrs Mcsuzy Mondon, and in attendance were technical teams and the senior management team of the Ministry of Education, and officers from other Government departments and agencies in the Seychelles. The IBE was represented by Programme Specialist and GEQAF Coordinator, Ms. Leah Sikoyo and Dr. Joshua Muskin, an IBE Consultant.
In her opening remarks, the Minister of Education acknowledged the opportune timing of the GEQAF initiative which started when the Ministry was developing its ‘Medium Term Strategic Plan 2013-2017 and Beyond’. She recalled that the first phase of the GEQAF which was conducted in Seychelles in 2013 served as a useful internal validation process for key elements of the draft strategic plan. She thanked UNESCO-IBE for providing expertise to support the Ministry in operationalizing the priority interventions areas of the Ministry’s medium strategic plan as the main activities for GEQAF Phase II. She wished the participants a fruitful workshop and success in the second phase of the GEQAF in the context of further transformation of the Seychelles education system.
Prior to the workshop, the GEQAF national core team had constituted technical teams corresponding to the identified priority intervention areas namely, Curriculum development and review; Curriculum development and assessment in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE); Continuous assessment and program evaluation; Competency-based curriculum/training; Inclusive education focusing on special needs learners; Integration of ICT in curriculum, learning and management; and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). In the course of the five day workshop held from 13 to17 July 2015 at the Adult Learning and Distance Education Centre at Mont Fleuri in Seychelles, the technical teams were guided by the IBE team to design detailed plans of action for development and implementation of activities within each of the priority interventions areas.
