Data for Development

The UIS is the most comprehensive source for global education statistics and has pioneered a range of data collections and international standards in the fields of education, science, culture and communications. While supporting the core work of UNESCO, these data also help shed light on complex human development issues. Global statistical indexes and reports, such as the World Development Report (World Bank) and the Human Development Index (UNDP), rely on UIS data to benchmark progress towards national and international targets. Wherever possible, UIS indicators are disaggregated by sex to improve measures of gender equality in critical development sectors.

The indices and reports listed here use UIS education, literacy and R&D data and indicators to measure development progress.
